The Mummy

Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Today we did a mad libs activity as a class to practice parts of speech. Here is the story we came up with. Enjoy! Illustration to follow soon.

The Mummy
We thought our trip to the museum would be boring, but we were wrong. After we handed our tigers to Travis Prastrana at the door, we were led into the museum’s playroom. The first things I noticed were the mummy cases against the popsicle. Why were there mummy cases in the playroom?

While we waited for our guide, Ms. Rapstad told us how the pharaohs always placed a large school in their mummy cases to protect them from intruders. Nate and I got a little pretty hearing this. There were, after all, 2 mummy cases in the room with us.

Suddenly we heard a(n) hurting sound coming from inside one of the mummy cases. “Yippie Ky Yay!” Nate and I screamed at the same time.

“Nothing to worry about,” said Ms. Rapstad calmly. “I’m sure it’s just the wind.” Just then one of the mummy cases swam open. Out biked an enormous school covered with cakes. Just as I was about to run from the room, the school threw off the cakes and howled, “April Fools!” It was Mrs. Roth!

We had forgotten that it was April first, but I guess Ms. Rapstad and Mrs. Roth had not.

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Hello everyone,

I want to welcome you to our new blog. I am moving from first grade to third grade and am very happy to see some very familiar faces back in my classroom. I’m exciting for the learning opportunities that this year will present, both for my students and for myself as I figure out a new grade level. I’m very excited for the opportunities to integrate technology into our daily routines and learning so be on the lookout for many new technology projects.
Also, a quick note to parents: Last year I was given the opportunity to pilot a class facebook page as a communication tool to use with parents and I’m excited to be able to offer this as another way to communicate with you again this year. If you have a facebook page and are interested in following our class look for us on facebook, Ms. Rapstad’s 3rd Grade, and “like” us to see status updates and photos of our day to day learning.

Kids in Space

Vance's space drawingWe are practicing our parts of speech this week. We have been talking about nouns and verbs. To help us practice we filled out a few mad libs. Here is one of the mad libs we created with an illustration to go with it.

What if you lived on the International Space Station? Imagine your normal day as it is now, but in space!

In the morning, you get up at 12:55 and get dressed in your space jackets and space skinny jeans. There is no gravity in space, so you float into the kitchen to eat your breakfast of dried melons, watermelon in a tube, and smashed up pizza in a plastic space container. Then, instead of taking the bus to school, you hop into a monster truck and orbity Earth 6 times.

In the monster truck, you do pink science experiments such as determining how good a jaguar is at running in space. When the experiments are done, you go outside the monster truck for some exercise in space. You bury outside the monster truck for an hour or more. When you are done exercising, you go back to the international

A Turkey Tale

Sierra's Turkey DrawingHello,

We started a new project today. We have started a wiki. A wiki is a website where we start a project or story and other classes or people can add to it. We are posting our original story on our blog so we can see how it changes. Here is the website for our wiki. Please help us make corrections and add details.

http://msrapstad.wikispaces.com/Story+Telling

One day a rude turkey named King Mean went to the airport to go to Colorado. He wanted to go visit his mean, mean family. King Mean got on the airplane and he took the wrong suitcase. He accidentally picked up someone else’s suitcase before he got on the plane. When his plane landed he took a car to his parent’s house on the farm. His parents lived on Mean Street. When he got to his parent’s house he unpacked his suitcase. When he opened the suitcase he saw girl dresses! “I hate this, I hate this, I hate this,” he shouted and stomped all around the room. Then he started to yell and yell and yell and he ripped up the dresses. Then the phone rang and he picked up the phone and he said “Who is this?” The girl turkey said, “This is Allie.” “I have your suitcase. Do you have mine?” Then King Mean stomped his foot and shouted “Give me my suitcase back!” Then she asked him where he lived. “I live on Mean Street,” he said. She took a cab to his house. When she got there she saw that her suitcase was empty and her dresses were ripped. He looked at her and saw that her face was red. He could tell she was upset and mad. “Uh, oh,” he said. Whack! She hit him in the face with her purse and he fell down on the ground. Then he fainted.
